The Norwegian energy company, Statkraft announced that it has acquired a 51 percent stake in Swedish electric vehicle charging firm, BEE charging Solutions AB.

With the latest partnership, Statkraft Swedish charging business Grön Kontakt AB, Bee Charging Solutions will now become one of the biggest EV charging operators in Sweden, Mer Sweden AB.

“I look forward to taking on the task and together with the rest of the organization as well as our new colleagues in Bee, creating the best and most consumer-oriented electric car charging company in Europe," said Kristoffer Thoner, newly appointed CEO of its EV charging subsidiary Mer.

Through its latest acquisition, Statkraft is seeking to benefit from the impending boom in electric car sales in Sweden. Statkraft confirmed that Mer Sweden will be integrated into Mer’s portfolio of charging companies in Norway, Germany, and the UK.

Existing Bee shareholders Öresundkraft, Jämtkraft, and Tekniska Verken will retain 49 percent and the recent transaction is expected to close in the second-quarter of 2021 subject to the approval of the competition authorities.

Bee is currently one of the leading charging companies in Sweden with more than 2000 public charging points and a market share of about 15-20 percent.
