Norwegian Hydrogen, in collaboration with a consortium of ten partners, has recently secured a €9 million grant from the Clean Hydrogen Partnership for the development of an integrated green hydrogen value chain at the Port of Hirtshals in Denmark.

The grant is financed under EU's research and innovation program 'Horizon Europe' under the call 'HORIZON-JTI-CLEANH2-2023' for small-scale hydrogen valleys in the continent. The project aims to establish a 5 MW electrolyser, H2 refuelling station for heavy-duty transport, and distribution networks for hydrogen, around the port area in Northern Jutland, Denmark.

Norwegian Hydrogen serves as the lead partner, responsible for project management, detailed engineering and construction, and the operation of the electrolyzer. The projects aims to deliver a minimum of 500 tonnes of green hydrogen per year and serve as a model for hydrogen hubs in the Nordic region.

"By leading the CONVEY project, Norwegian Hydrogen is setting a benchmark for green hydrogen development in the Nordic region. Through CONVEY, we aim to significantly contribute to the transition towards a low-carbon economy in the entire region, reinforcing our commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship in the hydrogen sector", said Jens Berge, CEO Norwegian Hydrogen.

Mitsubishi plans 80,000 TPA GH2 plant – world’s largest – in Netherlands

Mitsubishi Corp plans to invest over $700 million to build one of the world's largest "green" hydrogen production plants in the Netherlands. The plant, at capacity of up to 80,000 tonnes per annum, will be almost 30 times larger than the largest hydrogen facility operating at the moment.

Further, the project will utilize renewable energy from local wind turbines to produce hydrogen to help decarbonize the operations in the port. By focusing on the principles of circularity, the project will ensure that all elements of the process are utilized efficiently and sustainably, according to the developers.

Mirela Atanasiu, Executive Director ad interim of Clean Hydrogen Partnership, commented on the project, "With its strategic maritime location, CONVEY is an iconic project which integrates local renewable electricity, using the benefits of hydrogen to decarbonize logistics around the port and greening its local economy".

"I am proud that CONVEY is now part of our family of Hydrogen Valleys, constituting an important piece of the REPowerEU strategy to decarbonize industry, transport and energy sectors across Europe", she added.

The project's consortium of expert partners hail from diverse sectors, leveraging their specialties in hydrogen production, logistics, transportation, and energy system optimization, thereby demonstrating the versatile potential of hydrogen and its byproducts, they claim.
