Homegrown multinational company, L&T on Friday (March 1) said that it commissioned its first indigenously manufactured electrolyzer at the Green Hydrogen Plant at A M Naik Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, Gujarat.

With a rated power capacity of 1MW (expandable to 2MW), the electrolyzer can produce 200 normal cubic meters per hour of hydrogen. It is also equipped with two stacks and an Electrolyzer Processing Unit (EPU) ML-400.

The latest achievement marks L&T Electrolysers Ltd's foray into domestic electrolyzer manufacturing, with the company's commitment to propelling sustainable energy solutions, L&T said in a statement.

L&T Electrolysers Ltd is the newly incorporated entity of L&T focused on manufacturing pressurized alkaline electrolyzers using the technology from McPhy Energy, France. In the next few weeks, the newly commissioned electrolyzer will undergo rigorous testing to optimize its performance thereby laying the foundation of full-fledged manufacturing of electrolyzers.

"The indigenously manufactured electrolyzer marks a transformative leap towards clean energy, positioning us to lead not only in the domestic market but also globally. This advancement significantly bolsters our offerings across the value chain, showcasing L&T as a global force in the clean energy space," said Subramanian Sarma, Whole-time Director & Sr EVP (Energy), L&T.

The company plans to leverage its upcoming giga-scale facility in Hazira to meet the growing demand for green hydrogen, maximizing product localization through enhanced local supply chain, and automation for cost competitiveness.

L&T Electrolysers Ltd has been allocated 300MW/annum capacity under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI scheme) of the National Green Hydrogen Mission launched by India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and implemented by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
