Tata AutoComp delivers first set of BESS to Tata Power
India's leading electric utility, Tata Power received the first set of battery energy storage system (BESS) from Tata AutoComp for its energy storage park in Chhattisgarh.
The BESS will be deployed at Tata Power's 120MW energy storage park. Tata AutoComp had earlier entered an agreement with Tata Power Solar System Ltd, a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd to supply BESS for its renewable energy projects.
"With the rise of renewables, energy storage has become critical to address the intermittency of solar and wind energy resources. We shall integrate these BESS at our renewable sites to enable round-the-clock supply of clean power and ensure a speedier green energy transition," said Praveer Sinha, CEO of Tata Power.
Tata AutoComp also inaugurated its new BESS manufacturing facility on Saturday (Nov. 18). The facility is expected to have a capacity of 6GWh and is aimed at catering to the growing demand of the energy storage industry. Tata AutoComp manufactures li-ion-based BESS under its joint venture with Gotion Green Energy Solutions Pvt Ltd.
"We are leveraging our knowledge in the automotive domain to serve emerging markets which have a synergy in technology. We have been pioneers in launching the li-ion based battery packs and BMS for the electric vehicle segment," said Arvind Goel, Chairman of Tata AutoComp.
"We are now leveraging this knowledge to build battery energy storage systems. We will supply these BESS to Tata Power, which is a leading integrated energy company of the Tata Group," Goel added.
Tata Power will deploy these BESS at its renewable energy sites to enable round-the-clock supply of clean power.
