The British Office and Scottish Development International (SDI) have organized a UK Hydrogen Trade Mission to attend Energy Taiwan that took place at Taipei between October 19-21.

The UK government's £26 million Industrial Hydrogen Accelerator Program has disbursed a latest round of grants to industries steelmaking, asphalt, cement, waste, paint, and ceramics manufacturing towards decarbonizing heavy industry. Taiwan unveiled its 2050-net –zero-roadmap in March 2022 which included a prominent role for hydrogen in decarbonizing electricity generation, transportation and heavy industry.

Recognizing the opportune time for closer collaboration on this fuel of the future, both DIT and SDI recruited UK companies specializing in hydrogen transportation - fuel cell system - storage & delivery system – gas and simulation equipment to join a UK Hydrogen Mobility Mission to Taiwan to exhibit at Energy Taiwan.

The UK delegation – comprising leading UK companies from across the hydrogen value chain – were present at the UK-Taiwan Hydrogen Pavilion in Nangang Exhibition Center together with the member companies of Taiwan Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Partnership. The UK also had an Offshore Wind Pavilion on display.

Energy Taiwan aims to align with international net-zero transformation goals. Five exhibitions held simultaneously such as PV Taiwan, Wind Energy Taiwan, Smart Storage Taiwan; the newly launched Emerging Power Taiwan will bring together equipment manufacturers, service providers and construction companies in hydrogen power, small hydropower, tidal energy, geothermal energy and biomass energy to promote exchanges and cooperation for various renewable energy sectors; Net-Zero Taiwan will feature areas of energy creation, energy saving, green power procurement and circular economy.

Energy Taiwan also has a goal to accelerate the transformation of traditional manufacturing industries, making them a part of the green supply chain. Last year's show attracted 15,000 visitors.
