Matter unveils India’s first geared electric motorbike

Indian E2W start-up Matter has unveiled its advanced all-electric motorbike featuring 'Hypershift' gearbox - the brand's proprietary sequential manual transmission. The company says that the motorbikes is meant for green and connected mobility of the future, aided by next generation technology. 

The e-bike has been designed and engineered in-house from the ground-up, with a consumer-centric product development approach focused on safety, security, reliability, and performance, it adds. The vehicle will be manufactured at Matter's Ahmedabad facility, and will be available across major cities in India this year.

Matter's quintessential electric motorbike is powered by 5 kWh integrated and high-density Power Pack called the 'matterEnergy 1.0'. Developed in-house with Indian environmental and usage conditions in mind, the unit houses the battery pack, BMS, the Drive Train Unit (DTU), power conversion modules and other protection systems.

An Integrated Intelligent Thermal Management System (IITMS) using revolutionary active liquid cooling technology ensures optimum performance of all constituents of the pack, also making it the country's first liquid-cooled E2W battery pack. A 'smart' BMS and multiple sensors on the pack constantly monitors and optimizes the system for efficiency, security, and reliability, claims the manufacturer. 

Next on the equipment list is the 'matterDrive 1.0' propulsion system that combines an electric motor with the brand's 'Hypershift' manual gearbox. The 10.5kW electric motor paired with the proprietary sequential manual transmission expands the performance range of the drivetrain and provides consistent power delivery, flat torque, and efficiency, Matter adds. 

The company also claims that he drivetrain has been subjected to extensive testing and validation to meet stringent standards on performance and safety including AIS 041 and IP65. 

Further, the motorbike supports both standard and fast charging through a common connector using a 1kW 'matterCharge 1.0' charger. It can charge the vehicle in less than 5 hours, and has an over charge protection for charge safety. 

Other equipment on the list are touch and Android 4G enabled 7-inch Vehicle Instrument Cluster (VIC) to display key vehicle and performance data, connected mobile application for live tracking and geo-fencing, smart mobile charging port, front and rear disc brakes with ABS assist, and so on. 

Founded in 2019 at Ahmedabad, Matter has invested extensively in technology development with the "Innovate in India" approach to develop futuristic electric vehicle platforms and energy storage systems. The company claims that critical components for its products are designed by its team in-house and manufactured in India.
