Mahindra unveils its XUV 400 C-segment electric SUV in production version

Indian automaker Mahindra has revealed the production version of its much-awaited electric compact SUV meant for the domestic market. The new XUV 400 – essentially the electrified version of its XUV 300 – is slated for commercial launch in January 2023. It was previously showcased in the 2020 Auto Expo, Greater Noida as 'eXUV 300' concept.

The new EV is regarded as a significant product for the Mahindra brand in the Indian EV space, as it is a direct rival to the existing class of popular electric cars, which includes Tata Nexon EV Max, Hyundai Kona, and MG ZS EV.

However, on the face of it, Mahindra XUV 400 appears to be more than its direct rivals. The company has designed to make the e-SUV more premium, and loaded the same with a host of comfort and safety features to attract buyers in the fast-growing segment.

At the heart of the electric SUV is the IP67-rated 39.4 kWh battery pack, which powers the front-axle mounted electric motor producing 150 hp power and 310 Nm of peak torque. Mahindra claims that the car can hit a top speed of 150 kmph, with 0-100 kph acceleration in just 8.3 seconds.

In terms of driving range, Mahindra XUV 400 is claimed to run 456 km on a single charge as per Indian driving cycle (MIDC) scenario.

Mahindra has equipped the vehicle compatible with three types of chargers. A 50kW DC fast charger can charge the car from 0-80 percent within 50 minutes, while a nominal 7.2 kW (32A) charger takes 6 hours 30 minutes for recharge from 0-100 percent SoC. Yet another option is a standard 3.3 kW (16A) domestic socket that may take around 13 hours to achieve 100 percent SoC.

Other important features of the new Mahindra e-SUV include multiple driving modes, regenerative braking, six airbags, and so on.
