EKA Mobility bags 1,000 intercity electric buses order from GreenCell Mobility

Indian electric automaker EKA Mobility and GreenCell Mobility have signed an MoU for the supply of 1,000 intercity electric buses in 12-meter and 13.5-meter category for the latter's passenger mobility services in the country

The companies have committed to work together closely to drive a positive change in the global automobile sector by producing industry leading electric buses to transform public transportation. 

EKA Mobility, with Mitsui Co., and VDL Groep as equity partners, shall be responsible for supply, sales, and service of these buses, along with delivering quality certification reports to ensure the highest standards in this collaborative endeavor, according to its press statement. 

"Our collaboration with GreenCell Mobility is strategically positioned to usher in a cleaner, more sustainable future through electric mass transportation", said Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Founder and Chairman of EKA Mobility. 

"Public transportation, especially the intercity bus transportation is the primary mode of transport for more than 50 percent of Indians. Electrification of public transportation will pave the way for cleaner air, quieter streets, more efficient, convenient, safer, and cost-effective travel for all".

EKA Mobility, Mitsui, VDL Groep pledge $100 mn for EV manufacturing in India

EKA Mobility has announced strategic partnership with Mitsui & Co. of Japan and VDL Groep of Netherlands. The long-term alliance envisions to establish a global OEM for electric vehicles in India, with joint investment equity and technology cooperation.

He further added, "At EKA, we are committed to developing sustainable, environmentally conscious, and profitable products. By combining our expertise, we hope to set new standards in the commercial electric mobility, contributing considerably to the nation's sustainability objectives."

The companies claim an estimated annual fuel cost savings of ₹70 crores and 120 lakh gallons of diesel, along with a projected saving of 32,400 Tonnes of CO2 emissions, with the deployment of 1,000 electric buses. Furthermore, an estimated 6 lakh individuals will benefit every day from an improved and sustainable public transit infrastructure.

Devndra Chawla, MD and CEO of GreenCell Mobility, commented on the partnership, "This partnership not only strengthens our position in the market but also significantly aligns with our long-term vision for sustainable mobility.
