CESL, Marriot International inks MoU for setting up EV charging units
Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a fully-owned subsidiary of EESL, has signed an MoU with Marriot International to establish EV charging infrastructure at hotels run by Marriot and its affiliates in India. It will be installing charging units at 37 Marriott International hotels in the next two months, and will gradually expand to about 100 hotels in one year.
Speaking on the development, Ms. Mahua Acharya, MD, and CEO, CESL said that this partnership will significantly enhance consumer convenience and reduction of pollutants emission levels, leading to cleaner air and various public health benefits. "EVs are going to pave the way towards a green and sustainable future. Developing a sustainable landscape with strong supporting EV infrastructure is the key to cultivating consumer confidence in electric vehicles", she observed while adding that CESL takes pride in progressively spearheading initiatives to promote e-mobility in India.
CESL is working towards enabling battery-powered electric mobility and its infrastructure by employing unique business models. The company is utilizing a blend of concessional and commercial capital, carbon finance, and grants as appropriate to enable the commercialization of these solutions at scale. In this case with Marriot International, CESL will be entrusted with planning and implementation of the projects, including all costs and performances in terms of procurement, installation, operation, and maintenance of the charging units and related infrastructure.
"In partnering with a like-minded organization like CESL, we aim to enhance and strengthen our commitment towards sustainability, benefitting our business and the communities in which we operate. Through this association, we are aiming to create a reliable and seamless charging experience for our guests", said Mr. Bhaskar Gurunath, Area Director of Engineering, South Asia, Marriott International Inc.
